According to the study, male public radio listeners demonstrate lower testosterone levels, a tendency to shop at Trader Joe’s, and an uncanny ability to identify Sarah Vowell.

Female public radio listeners demonstrate slower metabolism, reduced knowledge of pop-culture, and an otherwise-inexplicable enthusiasm for Barbara Kingsolver.

A spokesperson for NPR could not be reached for comment, but BAC talked to one loyal listener who vehemently disputed the connection between his radio habits and loss-of-youth.

Sure, I hadn qualified for an Olympic event, but this would be a huge accomplishment for me. I started dancing well after all my peers had taken their first twirl. I was a teenager before I learned how to do a jet and almost 20 before I worked up the courage to take a hip-hop class.

My fellow performers are a mixed bunch, varying in age and ability. We have been rehearsing since May, congregating first on a television production set and then moving outdoors in early June. I not paid but I do get a travel card to cover my transport costs, the occasional meal and an assortment of official accreditation badges. I won lie sometimes I wear them around town because it makes me feel important.

Rehearsals last from four to 11 hours. For the most part they are in the evening and on weekends, allowing us to squeeze them in around our work schedules. These last two weeks, however, have been in overdrive.

But the best part is this: as a girl who never aspired to more than pirouettes in a North Toronto studio, the fact that I am going to be doing jazz hands in front of a TV audience of millions is both comical and incredible.
